The Finchale Partnership – February meeting of the Partnership Development Group

The Partnership Development Group (PDG) met at the end of February.  At the meeting

  • the PDG supported the proposal from the parishes of Coxhoe, Sedgefield and Trimdon to become one parish.  The proposal has now gone forward to the Episcopal Council.
  • we discussed the appointment of a Youth Ministry Co-ordinator in Durham Martyrs parish; and
  • we discussed the next steps with the Partnership Development Plan following the consultation meeting.

There’ll be more information about the plan after Easter, but in the meantime, you can read the minutes of the PDG meeting here.

The Finchale Partnership – Consultation on our Development Plan

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the meeting at St. Leonard’s on Thursday evening to share your thoughts and views on the partnership development plan.  The Partnership Development Group will be meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss all the ideas that came out of the meeting, and more information on how the plan will be taken forward will be available in the next few weeks.

The Finchale Partnership: Development Plan

Our Partnership was set up at Pentecost 2017, and we have made good progress in getting to know each other and starting to work together.  But it’s important that we agree what our priorities are, so that the Partnership takes forward the right things to support and build the church across our 9 parishes.

The Partnership Development Group (PDG) have drafted a development plan, but we need your views on whether we have included the right things, and we need you to get involved with taking forward all that needs to be done.  Please take a copy of the summary draft development plan, and let us have your views, by attending the open meeting at St. Leonard’s School in the main hall on Thursday 22 February at 7.00pm, or contacting Margaret Doyle after Mass or on margaretdoyle1066@sky.com.

The full draft development plan can be viewed at the back of church or on our Partnership webpages

Parish Pilgrimage to Rome

On 15 February, at 7.00pm, there will be a meeting for everyone who is joining our parish pilgrimage to Rome.  This is a chance for you to meet the others in the group, and we will talk about some of the practical arrangements and make plans for the week.  Contact Margaret Doyle on 0191 3783660 or margaretdoyle1066@sky.com for more information.

Around the church

Last week’s picture was from the armorials on the balustrades of the tribunes on either side of the high altar.  They are the arms of a selection of old Catholic families, mostly from County Durham, Northumberland and the North Riding of Yorkshire, some closely connected with the city and its Catholic missions. The picture was the one on the far right, the Witham family of Barnard Castle.

Apostleship of the Sea

Many thanks to everyone who has knitted hats for the Apostleship of the Sea. In the last 6 months we have sent over 50 hats to the AoS chaplain at the Port of Sunderland. Many of the seamen, who visit the port bringing us food and goods, are woefully ill-prepared for the cold. The hats are taken on board and offered to the seamen as a gesture of our support and gratitude. The chaplaincy also provides other warm clothing, practical help and advice, and a place for prayer.
