Thank You

A very big “Thank You” to those who contributed so generously towards the cost of the Christmas flowers. Your generosity means that the cost of the flowers was covered by donations. Although Easter is three months away yet please keep the Black Box in the Porch in mind towards the cost of these flowers.p1070927

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Takes place from Wednesday 18 to Wednesday 25 January. This year’s theme is “Crossing Boundaries.” In the 500th anniversary year of the Reformation, we are asked to celebrate our unity in Christ, and to become aware of how we may be building walls between ourselves and our fellow Christians.

The keynote text for the week is 2 Corinthians 5:14-20; For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Peace Sunday

Is celebrated next Sunday 15 January. In his message for the day, Pope Francis says:

On this occasion, I would like to reflect on nonviolence as a style of politics for peace. I ask God to help all of us to cultivate nonviolence in our most personal thoughts and values. May charity and nonviolence govern how we treat each other as individuals, within society and in international life. When victims of violence are able to resist the temptation to retaliate, they become the most credible promotors of nonviolent peacemaking. In the most local and ordinary situations and in the international order, may nonviolence become the hallmark of our decisions, our relationships and our actions, and indeed of political life in all its forms.”

Please pray for the work of Pax Christi, and all organisations that promote peace and reconciliation.

Crib Offerings

This year, with the encouragement of Bishop Seamus, we will be donating crib offerings to Friends of the Holy Land. Your offerings will go to help the poorest Christian families, especially in and around Bethlehem, the West Bank, Gaza and Israel, with education, employment, health and housing initiatives. FHL is a registered charity, and their work is ecumenical and apolitical. For further information, see the poster on the church noticeboard, or Please pray for our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land.
