Holy Hours

In his recent pastoral letter, Bishop Seamus asked that we pray that the grace of Jesus Christ will bring hope to the suffering and healing to the wounds of those who have been so deeply hurt by abuse.  He suggested that we should hold Holy Hours in each parish.  In the Finchale Partnership, the Holy Hours will be:

Tuesday 2 October

7.00pm                 St. Cuthbert’s, Durham

7.00pm                 St Joseph’s, Ushaw Moor              Mass at 6.30pm

7.00pm                 St Patrick’s, Langley Moor            Mass at 6.30pm

Thursday 4 October

12 noon               St. Cuthbert’s Chapel, Ushaw College

7.00pm                 St. Joseph’s, Gilesgate, Durham

7.00pm                 St John Fisher, Sedgefield, concluding with Benediction

Durham Martyrs Youth Ministry

Durham Martyrs would like to invite young people from across the Partnership to come along to one of the groups at Durham Martyrs Parish to make new friends, share a meal and take some time out. There are three groups, for three different age ranges:

Base Camp – For school years 4 and 5 – Tuesdays 4:30 – 6:30pm

Signpost – For school years 6, 7 and 8 – Thursdays 5 – 7pm

Frontier – For school years 9 – 13 – Wednesdays 7 – 9pm

All groups will meet in the Jubilee Room at St Joseph’s Church, Mill Lane, Gilesgate, Durham, DH1 2JG. Entry is £1.50 and includes a meal.

Finchale Partnership: Minutes of the PDG meeting

The Partnership Development Group met at the end of July, to review the first year, and to discuss the activity of our 6 sub-groups. The PDG concluded that we have achieved a lot in our first year, but we need to make sure that we give more people the opportunity to get involved. The minutes of the meeting are on the Partnership webpages, and there is a copy on the noticeboard at the back of church.

The ‘One Year On’ document which we sent to the Diocese can be found here.

Welcomers needed!

Welcoming people as they arrive for Mass is an important ministry.  Welcoming visitors to the church and making sure they can find everything they need is obviously important, but a word of welcome to people who attend St. Cuthbert’s regularly is just as important and helps to build up our community.

At the moment, we are very short of welcomers at the 10.00am Mass on Sunday morning.  If you would like to help, or if you want to find out more about what it involves, please speak to Margaret Doyle after Mass or email margaretdoyle1066@sky.com
