Is celebrated next Sunday 15 January. In his message for the day, Pope Francis says:
“On this occasion, I would like to reflect on nonviolence as a style of politics for peace. I ask God to help all of us to cultivate nonviolence in our most personal thoughts and values. May charity and nonviolence govern how we treat each other as individuals, within society and in international life. When victims of violence are able to resist the temptation to retaliate, they become the most credible promotors of nonviolent peacemaking. In the most local and ordinary situations and in the international order, may nonviolence become the hallmark of our decisions, our relationships and our actions, and indeed of political life in all its forms.”
Please pray for the work of Pax Christi, and all organisations that promote peace and reconciliation.
Please could you let the parish office know on 0191 3843442 or email firstname.lastname@example.org of any Sundays you will not be available for the new rota by noon on Thursday 12 January. The new rota will run from Sunday 22 January until Sunday 23 April.

The DCMA invites you to a music workshop led by Paul Berry, Director of Music at St. Mary’s RC Church, Hexham.
Following a series of very successful workshops including: Paul Inwood – A walk through the new Mass Translation in 2013; Lent/Easter workshop, led by Fr. Peter Carr and Philip Robinson at St. Mary’s Cathedral in April 2014, and Martin Foster’s Advent workshop in November 2015, the DCMA committee has asked Paul Berry, a gifted and talented liturgist and musician to lead a day for both instrumentalists and singers in February 2017. The focus of the day will be Holy Week, with three sessions centred around the Easter Triduum. Instrumentalists are welcome to bring their instruments and we hope that choirs will collectively participate in the day.
The workshop will be held at St. Mary’s RC Church, Hexham, on Saturday 25 February, starting at 10:30am, and finishing with Mass at 4:00pm. There is also the possibility of a guided tour of Hexham Abbey in the extended lunch break. More details of the day soon on www.rcdhn.org.uk.
The day is open to anybody who is interested in liturgical music, whether it be for schools or parishes. Should you wish to attend the session, then you are encouraged to email the Chairperson our very own Alison Purvis at email@example.com so that numbers for the day can be ascertained and sufficient copies of music can be brought along. Why not drop in to the session and meet new people across the Diocese facing the same musical challenges that you are?! Enjoy a choir day out with fellow singers and musicians.
Copies of the new Northern Catholic Calendar 2017, with details of all contacts in the Diocese, are now available at the back of church for a cost of £3.00 (ringbound) or £2.50 (ordinary binding) – please place money in the box for books and papers in the narthex.
